Ever wondered about our unsung healthcare workers who help move patients through the system?

Meet 65-year-old Madam Juwariah Taib, Patient Transport Assistant (PTA) Leader at the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH). Her day-to-day responsibilities involve helping to move patients from point to point and transporting patients’ case notes or their specimens.

Using Technology, Improving Productivity

To help improve productivity, KKH introduced the use of the E-Portering system in 2015 and provided all PTAs with an iPhone 6 Plus to assist in their daily tasks. Tasks assigned to them via the E-Portering system can be viewed on the phone and immediately carried out.

Previously, PTAs were notified of any assignments delegated to them through phone calls which they had to manually record in a logbook.

“It is now easier to view any tasks given to me. By having everything in one device connected to the E-Portering system, this makes the job easier and saves a lot of time,” explained Mdm Juwariah.

With the E-Portering System, PTAs are able to receive and view tasks on aniPhone 6 Plus, making their job easier and saving them time.

Mid-Career Switch

Mdm Juwariah first joined KKH in 2000, shortly after getting retrenched from a company in the computer industry. It was initially just something “to try out”, but she quickly found job satisfaction in helping others.

“Shortly after joining KKH, I soon realised this was something I really enjoyed doing. There is something about assisting other people that makes me feel good. In return, I receive warm smiles from the patients, which makes me feel very satisfied,” she said.
