When a loved one is suffering from a debilitating illness such as Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, stroke or even general ageing difficulties, our priority would undoubtedly be in making sure they receive proper care.
However, taking care of our loved ones can sometimes prove to be a challenge if we have work commitments and lack support.
If sending our loved ones to a nursing home isn’t an option, then there is another source of help many of us know little about. We could get healthcare professionals to come to our homes and make sure our loved one gets proper medical care and attention.
NTUC Health is one such organisation that provides this service and is committed to making sure that our loved one is in good hands while we are away.
NTUC Health’s Care@home provides a range of services such as personal care, nursing, medical consultation, and interim caregiver services. The services allow your elderly loved one to recover and age at home, where it is comfortable and familiar.
Therapy services are also available. With the aim of enhancing the quality of life, NTUC Health provides a comprehensive range of allied health services including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.
These services can be provided in the comfort of your own home by NTUC Health’s team of dedicated doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and professional caregivers.
Government subsidies are also available should you be eligible. To know the cost of the services, call NTUC Health’s hotline at 6715 6715 or email them at email@example.com. You can also visit their website for more information.
Let’s say you have the time to take care of your loved one who needs medical attention, but you lack the skills and knowledge.
If that’s the case, then NTUC Health can provide the proper training for you or your foreign domestic employee.
Conducted by licensed registered nurse educators, the training will teach you things such as basic understanding of ageing, how to communicate with seniors effectively, and safety and hygiene control. There are two types of training settings that you can choose from. You can either opt for the seven-hour classroom-based training or the three-hour home-based training, which gives you a more practical learning experience.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can also tap on the Caregivers Training Grant and only co-pay $10 for the course. Or if you are sending your domestic employee for training, you can draw on the Foreign Domestic Workers Grant.
