Jointly funded by the NTUC-U Care Fund, the Union of Security Employees (USE) recently saw 154 awards worth a grand total of $37,800 given out to children of union members, ranging from primary to tertiary level.

Scholarship recipient for degree level Ms Nicole Marie U Chia, 24, who is currently in her third year in National Technological University (NTU) majoring in English Literature, said: “I want to get a good job and I want to alleviate my family’s financial situation.”

Ms Chia’s father, 65-year-old security officer Mr Chia Kuan Yuen and an employee of Certis CISCO of almost 10 years is recovering from a recent major cancer operation.

Other unions that have given out bursaries and scholarship awards include:

Singapore Industrial & Services Employees’ Union (SISEU) $100,000
Housing and Development Board Staff Union (HDBSU) $28,180
Metal Industries Workers’ Union (MIWU) $60,000
