A new collaboration between NTUC LearningHub, e2i and John Wiley and Sons will offer Singaporeans an opportunity to pick up new skills that will be relevant for their futures.

A recent Future of Jobs Report published by the World Economic Forum detailed that workers today do not yet have the core skills needed to help them be competitive in the workplace come 2020.

The report identified that beyond the obvious technical skills, social and collaboration skills such as negotiation, effective communication, teamwork and problem-solving will be highly sought-after by hiring managers.

Accessing Future Skills

With a view to equipping working Singaporeans with these necessary skills, organisations like NTUC LearningHub and NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) have collaborated with global research, learning and publishing company John Wiley & Sons (Wiley) to co-develop a series of training programmes.

Unlike traditional lessons which are often long in duration, these programmes are designed to be bite-sized and interactive, with group discussions, individual exercises and even presentations complementing the mini lectures. The sweetener? They’re available in various forms, ranging from half-day WSQ Mini Series workshops to intensive two-day courses.

While you can find out more about the whole suite of programmes available under this collaboration at the LearningHub website, here are three half-day WSQ Mini Series courses to give you an edge in the workplace.

#1 Become an Effective Influencer

Success in the workplace does not hinge on personal ability alone, but through the effort and support of your colleagues and managers. While we may each have our own style to build rapport, ‘Becoming More Effective At Influencing’ will help you understand the framework for influence and how to doing so tactfully can make a significant difference in the workplace.

#2 Tell Stories with Infographics

The mind remembers what the eye sees. Given how quickly people are able to process information, and how increasingly limited their attention span is, it helps to tap the power of infographics to get our point across efficiently and effectively. ‘Infographics in Visual Story Telling’ will help you score points with great visuals.

#3 Analyse and Think Critically

Challenge the way you think with an introduction to critical and analytical methodologies. Beyond helping you better grasp what’s happening in the workplace, ‘Critical Thinking and Analytical Skills’ may even help you come up with innovative solutions to problems.
